Custody & keys
Chartist gives you two ways to hold funds, and they work differently. Here is exactly who holds which key in each case.
In-app wallets: Chartist holds the key for you
Every in-app wallet is a real Solana wallet with its own private key. When Chartist creates a wallet, its key is generated and sealed inside an isolated signing service. It never reaches our web servers, and it reaches your browser only if you choose to export it. A key you import, or a vanity address ground in your browser, is sealed into the same service when you add it.
Because Chartist holds the key, in-app wallets are custodial: Chartist signs on your behalf. That is what lets a trade go through without a pop-up, and lets an order fire while your tab is closed. It also means you are trusting Chartist with those funds, so keep in them only what you are actively using.
Your own wallet: you hold the key
Connect Phantom or Solflare and trade from it directly. Chartist builds each transaction and your wallet asks you to approve it; Chartist never sees that key. Orders, bundles and automation need a key that can sign while you are away, so they run from in-app wallets only.
Exporting a key
- On Wallets, open a wallet and choose Export.
- Your Solana wallet signs a one-time request naming that wallet.
- After a clear warning, the private key is shown once, in your browser only.
- Paste it into Phantom, Solflare or any wallet app. Closing the dialog clears it.
Withdrawals
- Withdraw SOL from any in-app wallet to any Solana address, after confirming again.
- Safety limits cap how fast value can leave a wallet, so a very large withdrawal may need to be split over time.
- Chartist charges no fee to withdraw. You pay the network fee.
API keys can’t touch custody
An agent API key can never export a key, import or delete a wallet, or withdraw to an outside address. Those actions need you, signed in.
